The age-old question of "Am I my brother's keeper?" Capitalists say "no". Christians say "yes". Social Communists say "Only if it benefits the oligarchs and increases their power". ... Gambling and sports don't mix, but neither does pharmaceuticals and television advertising. Glad you are concerned but the ship has sailed.

The ship has sailed but its sailed because of Adam Silver and the NBA. Hopefully the next ship won’t sail, so to speak, and I can almost guarantee that stricter rules will be put in place once some unfortunate shit goes down

I’ve been thinking this from the start so it’s nice to finally hear someone else with the same concerns. Addiction, diluted analysis and ad proliferation just don’t seem like they’re worth the trade off.

Do you see an end to to this or is too much money out there to go back?

I do see an end, I think eventually Adam Silver will retire, and this wave of neo-liberal growth will end, but it’s gonna be a bit bumpy to get there. The gambling thing is pretty filthy, it feels like a pandoras box has opened, and it’s just the beginning on that front unfortunately.

But you’re looking at this from an international pov I imagine right? David Stern’s dream has beautifully manifested. The league is becoming more diverse every year and growing, and yet not all growth is the same. There’s way to be healthy in growth. Curious to hear your pov.

Agreed on the Pandora’s box front unfortunately. I do think there was a way to roll out legal sports betting without it getting as out of hand as it already is (though the ships sailed).

From what I’ve seen, most European countries have had it legal for a long time, but it never seemed to dominate their sports cultures like it has in the US so far. I could be wrong and have nothing to base that on but my own experience though.
