The Lakers beat the New Orleans Pelicans earlier this week, draining three-pointer after three-pointer, at one point getting up by 40 points, in what was HONESTLY the first Lakers blow out in at least two years. It was magical and felt so good until the very next night when they lost to the Houston Rockets, the worst team in the league.
“Basketball and Feelings,” a new weekly Substack that explores what it’s like to be alive through the rim of NBA basketball, is back with a new post in your inbox.
Hope you enjoy this week’s thoughts on Bogdan Bogdanovic, the white Splash Brother on the Atlanta Hawks.
Bogdanovic. His new contract: 4 years, almost 70 million, $$$$$$$$$$ got me thinking about a conversation I had with a girl at Lamara yesterday, a delicious veg restaurant on Broad Street. The age old convo, commerce and art. Tension, the tension I mean, between commerce and art. Feels like I’ve been having this convo since back in the day with Wa, and here we are today, new-world-post-Covid and everything about that convo is basically the same. People still want to read the “twelve principles” of “successful people,” even cute black girls with gold nose rings; and me, just trying my best to speak about the subject in public, air balling every time. Well, Bogdan Bogdanovic got himself $70,000,000 for four years of hoop on the very same day I went to Lamara. I just want to make as much money as I can and feel good about it is what the gold nose ring girl said at Lamara, why should I feel shame about making money? I shoulda just told her what I’m telling you: Bogdanovic just made 70 mill today to play basketball for the next four years of his life, there’s nothing to feel bad about.
Aren’t NBA players the best medicine for money-shame? Let me know what you think!
