Hey everyone,
I’m excited about the discussion we had on this episode. We start by talking about an observation I’ve had recently about the NBA, which is that, despite all of these top tier international players (Jokic, SGA, Doncic, Wemby) the NBA still seems to be stuck in a loop of broadcasting the old superstar staples of Lebron, Curry, and Durant.
I realize the NBA has made a lot of cash with LCD (LebornCurryDurant) but those guys are no longer cool anymore, and they’re certainly not the future. The future is resoundingly international, and yet everywhere you look, it seems, the NBA (fans, media, former players, league, etc) refuse to promote these phenomenal international talents. Why?
If these players were American, there would be a completely different conversation and media blitz happening around them. What that says about the NBA and its audience is one thing, but what it says about our culture at this current moment is even more interesting.
Check out the ep when you’re stuck in traffic or on the subway, and feel free to let me know what you think after you do.
